It's about 7AM on a cold and rainy Wednesday morning. As I am walking out of my apartment I spot a pile of glass shards next to my car. Great start to the hump day.
Turns out some crooks broke into my beat-up Saturn to steal an old iPod and GPS (neither of which were in great condition). After briefly peaking my head in the car to assess the situation, I realize that I do not have the time and/or care to file a police report (at that point in the day).
Upon getting back into Brooklyn later on that evening I called the local police precinct's non-emergency number, which I had researched earlier that day. I was then informed three different times that I had the wrong precinct number, until I finally learned that I would need to call the 9-1-1 emergency number to file my non-emergency police report.
"9-1-1, what is your emergency," questions the operator.
Ughhh.
Besides the wasted time and stress, worst part about this is that I have a $500 deductible and clearly did not have $500 worth of damage. Instead, I will most likely pay the $200 out of pocket, to fix the window and end this inconvenience. But at times like this I often wonder, why the hell do we have insurance if we're not always going to be insured?!?!
